The Mini UK Challenge cars have been the blueprint for all of my builds. Finally, two upgrades I have been waiting to do for a long time are done.
I just upgraded my 2016 F56 Mini Cooper S with Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 rims, JCW Brembo brake upgrade, NM Engineering stainless steel brake lines, and topped off with Pirelli P Zero Nero GT tires.
I wanted 17″ rims but the size of the JCW Brembo brake kit really made finding rims tough. The Mini Challenge cars all ran the Team Dynamics 1.2 Pro Race rims with the Brembo brakes so that is why I went with that setup.
Being Italian, Pirelli tires were the only tires I was going to go with. I topped off my dream build with the Pirelli P Zero Nero GT summer tires.
Install was done by a great front of mine who is no stranger to cars. He built a 600hp Subaru STi drag car along with many other cars so I knew he could do the brake install. Subsequently, the complete install lasted only two hours!
Thankfully, the install was pretty straight forward but with any modification, however, there are always little hiccups along the way.
For example, it took a while to bleed the passenger side Brembo caliper. For some reason, the bleeder just wasn’t getting the air out. A very careful drive to the parts store, there was probably 10% brake pressure as I drove, I returned with a $4 piece of tube and after that, the brake bleed went perfectly.
Pirelli has been making incredible race tires for generations so this was a no-brainer decision for me. I love the look and ride that Pirelli tires offer. Being a summer tire I know the performance is going to be amazing. I went with the 205x45x17 size.
I’m extremely excited about this setup. Most importantly, I will be doing some autocross races and road course races this year so not having to worry about brakes, tires, rims, and wheels is a huge relief. I may never be able to afford an official Mini UK Challenge car but I love building my own version of one!
