Yes, I need a radar detector but hated how that big lighter plug stuck out. I came across the CravenSpeen Hidden Power Adapter and decided to give it a shot. Basically, it moves the lighter plus to a hidden area. It was cheaper than getting it direct wired.
It took some time, but it works!
If you have bigger hands, this will be a heck of an install. It could literally take you 10mins or 10hours. The steps are pretty straightforward from CravenSpeed. The worse step it trying to get a little clip back on the lighter.
You have to squeeze your hand into a spot where hands should be going and try to get a clip on a peg without being able to see it. As you can tell from the pictures, it’s a small hole!
Yes, I learned I have big hands. I for the life of me could get my hand at a good angle to get this stupid clip in. I debated cutting the lighter out to get to it!
But at last, it got connected!!!! My lord it was painful.
I ran the adapter through a little gap on the drivers’ side and connected my radar detector into it. Crossing my fingers I turned my Mini on and the radar detector fired up! I wanted to cry.
All said and done, it took me about 45 minutes to install it but I am thrilled with the outcome. The ugly power plus is gone!
If I wanted to drive slow, I’d have a Prius.
